Steve Berry – Sports Massage and Deep Tissue Massage

“Steve is a very skilled massage therapist. He is very professional, informative and focuses on any issues and concerns I have. I work in a high stress environment, this causes high tension in my back. After each session, the tension in my back has substantially decreased and I can feel increased functionality and ease of movement. Would highly recommend”

Samantha Haworth – Investment Banking

I began my career as a personal trainer, working with a mixed range of clients from newbies to athletes. During this time, myself and my clients picked up a fair amount of injuries, which were alleviate through regular sports massage. I became fascinated by the benefits and results of the treatments, so I decided to become a therapist.

I now have a BTEC Level 5 in Sports Massage. I’ve had experience working in clinics, gyms, homes and offices across London. The most common problem I come across is muscular pain as a result from poor posture, such as sitting at a desk for long periods. That said, sports massage isn’t just for those who are into fitness, it’s also for those who live a stressful, physical and emotional lifestyle.

During my career, I have used various massage therapies to help those who suffer from a variety of musculoskeletal conditions, such as lower back pain. My PT background allows me to provide exercises and stretches. When combined with regular massage, you have a better chance of achieving your goals. The journey is just as important as the destination.

If you are looking to relieve tension or pain or to relax your mind after a stressful day, please book in a massage.

Amy Moffat – Deep Tissue & Pregnancy Massage

unnamed-9 (2)

I believe in treating each individual according to their very own intricate and specific needs. Every treatment is tailored, after consultation and body examination, to the characteristics of each person. Using deep tissue and soft tissue techniques combined, I treat chronic aches and pains, support injury management and also treat women through pregnancy, all with the aim of restoring health and energy to body and mind in a supportive and welcoming environment.

My holistic approach aims to address and understand the core problems causing imbalances in the systems of the body, therefore dealing with the origin of the issues rather than simply addressing symptoms.

My pregnancy massage is no different, with each mother-to-be treated as the individuals they are, addressing issues of aches and pains that come with a changing skeletal and muscular system, as well as hormonal changes that impact the body and our overall well-being.

“Simply the best massage that I have ever received. Amy Moffat gives an
incredible deep tissue massage and takes time to personalise it to your
individual requirements. Professional and friendly, I would not hesitate
in recommending her.”

I have been treating clients since 2011 after graduating from Bodyology and gained my pregnancy massage qualification in 2013.

I look forward to seeing you at The Refinery!

Rose Dalrymple – Swedish & Thai Fusion & Pregnancy Massage

I first qualified in Swedish massage in 2003, and have over a decade of clinical experience as a massage therapist.  My experience as a therapist has grown alongside my love of traveling; I have studied numerous massage disciplines from around the world. My time spent in Thailand was particularly valuable in developing my style and understanding how multifaceted the benefits of massage. It is a truly holistic practice.

Swedish & Thai Fusion Massage

I specialise in a fusion of Swedish and Thai massage.  I developed my own treatment style that encompasses the principles and benefits of both disciplines. The soothing, flowing and deeply relaxing techniques of Swedish massage in combination with the deeper pressure points, palm pressures and passive stretches of Thai massage. An incredibly intuitive approach, tailoring the massage to the individual.
This treatment is a deeply relaxing and restorative experience. The massage is a medium to deep pressure and is suitable for people with tension and tightness held in the muscles, but also benefits individuals desiring a relaxing and stress relieving massage. I use organic skin nourishing oils and therapeutic essential oils during the treatment.

I recommend an hour and a half for a full body massage, as the treatment is a comprehensive combination of techniques encompassing the whole body. The therapy works deeply and energetically, for a deeply relaxing and meditative experience a full body massage for 2 hours is blissfully restorative.

For particular areas of focus such as back, neck and shoulders an hour treatment is ideal.

Pregnancy Massage

I am fully qualified in pregnancy massage, and have supported women before, during and after pregnancy. This is a holistic massage using Swedish techniques. It is gentle and soothing.

I use oils with the massage to soothe aches and pains related to pregnancy. The treatment is carried out on the regular massage table, with the client lying on their back or on one side. Using lots of pillows and blankets I ensure the mum-to-be is comfortable and supported at all times. The treatment encompasses the whole body and lasts 1 hour. This massage is suitable from the 14th week of pregnancy.

Natalie Toulou – Kiom Therapy

kiomKi means energy and Om means vibration. Kiom therapy is an energetic vibrational massage and physical rehabilitation therapy based on theory and techniques from eastern and western medicine. Kiom Therapy focuses on the release of physical and/or emotional trauma held in the body. It is an integrated combination of functional and structural forms of rehabilitation giving the body the resources and awareness to heal itself.

Treating the entire body and all its layers, the aim of the therapy is to decompress the body, reset muscle memory and create structural changes, allowing the body to regulate better and maintain a natural harmony to allow all of its systems to function at their optimum.

No part of the body functions independently without being affected by its other parts. Kiom treats the physical, internal and energetic layers of the body to reset and harmonise all interconnected systems, tissues, joints, muscles, internal organs and endocrine imbalances. This approach to healing gives me the tools not only to target physical injuries or treat physical conditions but also to optimise internal functions, including the circulatory, immune, central nervous, gastro-intestinal and lymph systems.

Past traumas, both physical and emotional, can remain held within the body’s systems and layers for lifetimes. The effects of trauma are displayed through the physical body as a result of the body’s coping mechanisms in response to what life can throw at us. This in turn can affect our lives in painful and strenuous ways. Sometimes pain, tension or discomfort is the body’s way of communicating that whatever is held needs to be released. Kiom listens to what your body is trying to say.

Whether it’s from an accident, your lifestyle or even if you have no idea; your symptoms can be treated and no condition is incurable.

About Me

My approach to healing is about treating the entire body and all its layers with integrated techniques that draw from a number of angles including sports science, psychotherapeutic touch, eastern philosophy and energy medicine.

Since 2012 I have trained in Sports injury massage, Reiki, Pregnancy massage, Biodynamic psychotherapy, Acupressure and Kiom Therapy. While studying biodynamic body psychotherapy, I became increasingly interested in the affects of trauma and emotion held in the body. I had a personal connection to this through my own experience after developing symptoms from anxiety, depression and other physical injuries as a result of an accident. I was treated with Kiom Therapy and I became hooked.

I was lucky to be treated and taught by Aglaia Hernandez who has been developing the therapy since 2002 and is now on a quest for global healing domination! I am now 1 of 4 Kiom therapists including herself to be practicing and developing the therapy further.

Kiom Therapy
Synergizes energy techniques to scan the body, locate trigger points to promote a deep feeling of warmth and relaxation. Combined with neuromuscular techniques to restore musculoskeletal functions; this will assist with the rehabilitation process of the body and prevent injury.

Kiom Sports Deep Tissue Therapy

A combination of massage, passive stretching and neuromuscular techniques, such as Soft tissue Release, Deep tissue massage and Trigger point therapy. This combination will aid to release tension, aches and pains in the musculoskeletal system as well as to address underlying muscular imbalances and skeletal dysfunctions, which could be caused by active sport, passive sedentary lifestyle or emotional stresses.

Kiom Accupressure and Traditional Chinese Medicine Therapy
An ancient healing art using the fingers and other parts of the body to skilfully press key points along the body’s meridians, which stimulate the body’s natural self-curative abilities. When these trigger points are pressed, they release muscular tension, and promote circulation of blood, and the body’s life force energy to aid healing.

Kiom Synergised Energy Healing

Combines different techniques from Reiki, Reconnective Healing and Quantum Touch Healing, to maximize effectiveness of treatment when releasing energetic blockages caused by physical or emotional trauma, that affects the levels of life force(Qi, Ki, Chi, Prana) and self healing mechanisms inherent in the human body.

Debbie Wellfare – Indian Head Massage

debbie_wellfareIndian Head Massage or ‘Champissage’ has been practised in India for over 1000 years as part of everyday family life. Narendra Mehta brought it to the west in the 1970’s and the treatment was extended to include the face, ears, neck, shoulders, arms and hands.
Indian Head Massage works on areas affected by mental and emotional stress. Working with a firm and gentle rhythm it helps to relieve muscular discomfort and tension as well as calming the spirit and aiding relaxation, it also improves circulation, enhances the senses and promotes clear thinking.

The massage will begin with the upper back, where a combination of deep tissue massage and pressure point work helps to relax the muscles and to loosen and melt away any knots. Moving through the shoulders and upper arms further releases the common spots for holding stress and tension, and then working deeply into the neck where tension accumulates. Moving up to the scalp, techniques are used that stimulate, relax and revive the whole of the head, increasing circulation and promoting healthy hair. Finally the treatment will end with a gentle face massage using techniques that aid lymphatic drainage, reduce puffiness and ease sinus and headache problems.

Indian Head Massage treatment is performed whilst seated upright in a comfortable chair. If oils are preferred upper clothing can be removed and a large towel will be provided to ensure modesty is maintained.

Indian Head Massage will soothe away stress and tension, leaving you relaxed, revitalised and re-energised. This is a very popular treatment, perfect for promoting a calm mind, a stress-free body and for maintaining optimum health.

The benefits of the treatment include:

  • Helping with migraine, headaches and sinus problems.

  • Easing stress related disorders.

  • Improving insomnia and poor quality sleep.

  • Increase of oxygen and glucose supply to the brain.

  • Scalp stimulation increasing blood circulation promoting healthy hair.

  • Improved muscle tone.

Giacomo Piazzalunga – Shiatsu Massage

Giacomo is a graduate of the Italian school ‘La Fonte Shiatsu’ (Bergamo, Italy) and a passionate practitioner of the Masunaga method, Giacomo is constantly looking for new ways to connect and relate with the client, to provide the best treatment that will activate a powerful healing response from the body and improve wellbeing. Giacomo has participated in a variety of community events in his hometown in Italy, as well as giving treatments independently.

Giacomo is a registered practitioner with the Italian association of professional shiatsu practitioners and teachers, A.P.O.S. (Associazione Professionale Operatori e Insegnanti Shiatsu).

Shiatsu is a Japanese energy-based type of bodywork. The word shiatsu literally means ‘finger’ pressure’ (Shi=press and Atsu=finger);  it is also called shiatsu massage or shiatsu body work. Its origin is in ancient philosophic oriental traditions and in Traditional Chinese Medicine.

The principle of shiatsu is related to the energy flow, called Ki or Qi, through the body. According to shiatsu principle, disruption to this energy flow can cause illness and disease. Shiatsu claims to free blockages to the Ki flow, and restore energy to areas where it is low, by pressing on points on the body  along the lines of energy called meridian channels.

Shiatsu can effectively treat a range of musculo-skeletal and stress-related problems, can maintain good health and also help prevent many types of health problem from arising.

Using fingers, hands, elbows and sometimes feet, pressing the body of the client, the practitioner stimulates the circulation of the Ki, helps to release toxins and tension from muscles, and stimulates  the hormonal system, helping the body heal itself.

A shiatsu treatment takes about one hour. The client wears light, comfortable clothes, and will be treated lying down on a futon mattress.

Laura Maidment

laura-maidmentI was inspired to become a Yoga Fusion Massage Practitioner after attending a Thai Massage Workshop where I immediately decided to begin my journey into bodywork, as nurturing the body and it’s energy centre through massage felt like second nature to me. The techniques and ancient theory behind the foundation of Yoga Fusion Massage – a combination of Thai Yoga Massage adapted to include deep tissue oil work to suit our modern day lifestyle – create a nourishing complete full body treatment which uses palming and thumbing techniques that work on the body’s main energy lines. This style of massage will help rebalance the energy body and remove any blockages, whilst the deep tissue oil work compliments this by releasing tension in and around the back, neck and shoulders.

A Thai Yoga Session:

The client needs to wear loose fitting comfortable clothing. The massage takes place on the floor on a futon where thumbs, palms, elbows, knees and feet are used to apply a combination of acupressure, gentle rocking and twisting techniques, joint and spine manipulations and assisted yoga stretches. The client is also usually covered with blankets for most of the massage to ensure warmth is constant. A massage session is always tailored to the client. Not everyone is flexible and some people may have very limited mobility. Everyone can benefit from Thai Yoga. Yes, it can be very dynamic, deep and intense if a client is able and wishes to receive in that way but that is not for everyone. Thai Yoga is usually very gentle and meditative, progressively manipulating and releasing the tissues until calm is restored.

The benefits of Thai Yoga Massage are countless. By freeing the flow of vital energy in the body, Thai Yoga Massage can improve posture, breathing, flexibility, digestion and circulation. Muscles are stretched, inner organs toned and emotional and nervous tension is reduced. Often a deep sense of peace can be experienced during and after a treatment. Although the main emphasis in the practice of Thai Yoga Massage is usually on health prevention (as all disease manifests first on the energy level and can be treated there before it becomes physical), it can also be of great therapeutic benefit for a range of specific problems and conditions, such as:

  • shoulder and neck tension

  • joint pain, sciatica and hip problems

  • arthritis

  • back pain

  • digestive disorders

  • sports injuries

  • insomnia, headache and other stress related conditions

Thai Yoga Massage Pricing:
£60 for 60 mins
£80 for 90 mins
